I've bought and sold several cameras on craigslist (including a 6D) and never had an issue. As for what to look for just make sure there's no dings or dents that he neglected to mention, make sure all the functions are working and you're pretty much set. See if you can offer him a little lower, as Mal pointed out it's not that great of a deal as is. then again, I've owned BMW's with 350k miles on them too so I wonder why people care so much about mileage as well I've never understood why people obsess over shutter count. Give both a gentle shake to listen for loose bits.īut really, I'd just wait for a refurb in-stock and buy from that. Listen to the camera and lens for anything weird. Test the IS on the lens (turn it on, off and test it with shots). Look for dents of damage, as it usually could be from a drop or fall. Test the lens for focus issues by focusing on close things and far things back and forth at different focal lengths.
If you do happen to go meet up and test the camera, simply test everything. They are for sale all the time in this price range.
The lens, again, you can get cheaper here on POTN. The difference is saving $200 and getting a year warranty, along with a better condition and lower shutter count. Personally I would just wait for the 6D to hit the refurb stock again, and buy it from Canon, rather than from a stranger on Craigslist. The 24-105L is often $450 in good condition, used. So, the 6D is about $1k from Canon Refurb, and it comes with a 1 year warranty.

What should I specifically check/look out for on the camera/lens when I meet the guy tomorrow? Is there a program I can download (for Mac) that I can check the shutter count on the spot? Anything else I should think about that I haven't yet? I am obviously very interested in this, and was hoping I could get some advice from some veteran photographers. He said he is selling as he is upgrading to a Nikon 810. I asked him what the shutter count was, but he didn't know and said that he was estimating around 20,000. He claims that the camera and lens are in excellent to near perfect condition, as he does shoots roughly two times a month and always in studio (so not much exposure to the elements). Included is the 6D, 24-105mmL lens, four batters (one OEM, three third party), two chargers (one OEM, one third party), battery grip, and camera bag for $1,500. So I am in the market to purchase a Canon 6D with kit 24-105mmL lens, and found a guy on Craigslist who has a bundle he selling.
